Where to stay in Santorini

Santorini is a picturesque island located in the Aegean Sea, in Greece. It is known for its stunning views, white-washed buildings, and blue-domed churches. Our island is also a popular vacation destination, drawing tourists from all over the world to experience its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.

But where to stay in Santorini? Which village to choose and why?

Villages to stay in Santorini

One of the most popular places to stay in Santorini is the village of Fira. Fira is the island’s capital and it is located on the west coast of the island. The village is perched on the rim of the caldera and offers panoramic views of the sea and the volcano. Fira is known for its narrow streets, traditional houses, and lively nightlife. Visitors can explore the village’s museums and art galleries or relax in one of its many cafes and restaurants. There are also many hotels and vacation rentals available, ranging from budget-friendly options to luxury resorts.

Eternity Suites, a luxury hotel in Fira is also located in the center of the capital – just 5’ walk from the city main square!

Another popular place to stay in Santorini is the village of Oia. Oia is located on the northwest coast of the island and is known for its charming architecture and stunning sunsets. The village is home to a number of traditional houses, churches, and windmills, as well as several restaurants, cafes, and shops. Visitors can also explore the nearby Amoudi Bay, which offers a variety of water sports and activities. Oia also has a range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly apartments to luxury villas, but most of the apartments are luxury and more high-budget than Fira.

For a more relaxed and quieter place to stay, Kamari is a good option, located on the east coast of the island and is known for its long black sandy beach and clear waters. The village is also home to a number of restaurants, bars, and shops, as well as several archaeological sites, such as the Ancient Thera ruins and many activities to do! Kamari has a range of accommodation options to choose from, including budget-friendly apartments and hotels, up to luxury villas. Here the most apartments are budget friendly and you can find a nice apartment for under 100€ per night, even in summer months!

Perissa is another option for a quieter and more relaxed place to stay, known for its long black sandy beach as well. It’s located on the east coast of the island and is considered one of the best beaches on Santorini along with Perivolos (it’s in the same coast). The village also has a variety of restaurants, cafes, and shops, as well as the ruins of ancient Thera nearby(as in Kamari Village).

Perissa has range of apartments and the most hotels here are budget friendly – even thought there are some high luxury resorts.

Finally, for a more traditional and authentic experience, visitors can stay in the village of Megalochori which is located in the center of the island and is known for its traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere. The village is home to several traditional houses, churches, and wine cellars, as well as a number of restaurants and cafes(as always in Santorini!). Visitors can also explore the nearby ancient Akrotiri excavations or take a cooking class to learn about traditional Greek cuisine. Here you have a limited number of accommodation options, including charming guesthouses, B&Bs and villas. Megalochori prices are a bit higher than Kamari and Perissa – they are close to Fira and Oia budget.

Santorini has a wide range of villages to choose from, each with its own unique charm and atmosphere. Fira, Oia, Kamari, Perissa, and Megalochori are some of the best places to stay on the island, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the island’s natural beauty, rich culture, and delicious cuisine. Whether you are looking for a lively nightlife, a peaceful retreat, or a traditional experience, Santorini has something for everyone.

In Fira you will find the most bars and clubs but on the other hand, Perissa and Kamari offers a unique beach for your daily swims! It all depends also in which time you want to visit Santorini – as Kamari and Perissa have open shops only during peak periods (April – September) and Fira have open shops and restaurant all the year!

If you want to stay in Fira, then Eternity Suites is a luxury hotel with 8 private suites, offering best accommodation services!
